Most Common Questions
1. Do we need to make advanced
reservations for a guided trip?
It is possible to get a trip within a very short time, even as a walk in,
however, it would be best to make a reservation well in advance. Especially if
you will need some nights lodging in the area. There are not enough rooms in the
area to accommodate all the people wanting float trips at some of the more busy
times of year.
2. Is there a Deposit due at the
time of our Booking?
Yes, we require 30% of the trip to hold your booking. If you need to cancel
your trip you will receive your entire deposit if the cancellation is 1 week
before the scheduled trip. If there is snow or rain, generally that means the
fishing will be better, but we don't want anyone to have a bad trip due to
inclement weather, therefore bad weather can be a factor for receiving full
return on deposits. Of course if all the other boats still go out that day we
would have to evaluate the situation.
3. How do you assign the guides
on a trip? can we reserve a guide? Can we have the same guide every day?
We generally assign the guides to a trip two weeks before the trip unless
a client has requested guides earlier. If that is the case we assign requested
guides at the time of booking or request. As to have the same guide every day we
like to assign them according to the whims of a customer -- Some people like to
sample different guides to glean knowledge and ideas from different sources,
while others like the service from one guide because they can settle into a
style. If there are no special requests then we try to keep the same guide
throughout the trip. That is sometimes impossible and we have to change out
guides at times.
4. How many people can we take
in a boat?
A Mackenzie drift boat is made for one person rowing and two passengers,
therefore we limit our trips to two people per boat. If we are talked into three
people then we charge an extra $100.00 per boat. Reasons for this are liability
mainly and the fact that our customers will not get the satisfaction we think
they should because of the difficulty of trying to fish three from a boat, or
even fit three to the boat.
5. Where and when do we meet our
guide?
On most occasions we will meet in Trout Creek Flies Fly Shop. There will
be some occasions when a client will need to be picked up at the small Dutch
John Airport, other Lodge or a campground, and that is possible.
Meeting time will be set up with the client in advance. The most common time
is between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM.. There will be times when a late start is
advised due to hatches or maybe traffic on the river. An afternoon float into
the evening makes a very good trip at times.
The Green River is famous for it's midday hatches.
6. What is included in the trip?
In our trips you will get the guide, a lunch, drinks (beer or alcohol is
legal for you to drink on the river, but against the law for the guide to buy it
for you), You will get most flies supplied by your guide, transportation to and
from the river. If you need equipment like rods, reels, or waders there is an
extra rental fee for them. You will need to buy licenses.
7. Where do we fish?
We have three stretches of the Green River from which to choose from.
All three are great fishing. You can request which stretch you would like or if
that does not matter we let the guide decide which may by the best stretch each
day. There may be weather conditions that prohibit the two lower sections. We
also have some private water we could suggest.
